Just slightly above chick lit in the hierarchy of fiction is the romantic dramedy The Frog King. What sets this book apart from your average beach book is the depth of the characters, the twist on the usual relationship problems, and the voice and dialogue throughout.

Hero Harry Driscoll grew up privileged, and now works as a peon at a publishing company. Despite the fact that he is madly in love with co-worker/girlfriend Evie, sex is out of the question due to Evie's medical condition.

Though Harry should be the most interesting character, he's not - Evie is. This is a major flaw that is subtly covered up by colorful wordplay and the rise and fall of the lovers' relationship. Harry is your basic guy who hasn't gotten past his college years and needs to grow up or lose the girl - with just enough twists to leave him room for redemption in the eye of the reader.
