Halo is widely considered one of the most influential video games. It was one of the first of the more recent generation of video games to reach mass-millions while also offering an actual ongoing storyline - rather than frontloading the game with story, then dropping plot altogether.

Set in the year 2552, the hero wakes up in the future to find humans at war with The Covenant, a fellowship of aliens. You are no longer on Earth; Halo is the name of the mysterious, ring-shaped world where the war takes place, and this Story World is one of the most highly acclaimed in all video games.

The A.I. in Halo is quite sophisticated, and offers much in the way of opponents and allies that other games do not. They can talk to one another and react to what the hero does - by ducking bullets or rolling to safety. If you mistakenly shoot too many allies, even they will turn on you.

Sadly, as the game levels increase in difficulty, the story fades to the background - but Halo still has one of the most popular premises ever.
